Over the last few decades, the world's population has gone from being mostly rural to mostly urban. Much of that growth has taken place in countries that are experiencing rapid economic development. More than half of the world's population currently lives in citiesโand as time goes on, it's clear that more urban dwellers will find themselves living in megacities.
Not surprisingly, many of the world's most populous cities are found in the two most populous countries in the world, China and India. Shanghai and Beijing have populations of 25 and 22 million respectively, while Delhi and Mumbai have populations of 27 million and 21.5 million respectively.
This geography quiz will test your knowledge of the locations of some of the world's cities and capitals. For each named city, identify the country in which it is located. If the city is in multiple countries, we are referring to the most populous one. If you can get most of these right on the first try, your geography trivia knowledge is impressive!
