17/20. Rarest sea mammal is the vaquita. I admit to googling that one. It is closely followed by the Hawaiian monk seal. The question was sea animal though, not specifically mammal. There is a list of less than a dozen that include some fish and other marine creatures. So we’ll stay with the vaquita. Funny thing is I’m pretty sure I saw something about this on a documentary quite recently. Poor old brain, getting a bit overloaded. I probably have to thank my older granddaughter for this score. We seem to be sea people but she had a particular fascination with sea creatures, especially sharks and rays. She was practically an expert by the time she was about 12. I went to a big aquarium with her when she was about 16 and I thought we would never leave. She is in her late 20s now and mother to my great grandson and I reckon he’ll know lots about the sea by the time he starts school.

The Rarest Marine Animal Is The Vaquita

About This Quiz

Picture this: You're having a nice day at the beach, watching the waves roll in. A small, translucent creature washes up near your feet. Everyone around you shrugs and keeps walking, but you stop and crouch down, examining its gelatinous body. You're not sure, but you think it might be a type of jellyfish—maybe a moon jelly? You wish you knew for sure.

If that sounds like you, congratulations—you might actually be a marine biologist at heart! But don't worry if you've never stepped foot in a lab or donned scuba gear. Marine biology isn't just for professionals; it's for anyone fascinated by the ocean and its countless mysteries. If you've ever been amazed by bioluminescent creatures, curious about what whales are saying to each other, or wondered why octopuses are so smart, you're in the right place.

This marine biology trivia quiz is here to test your marine knowledge and maybe even teach you a few things along the way. If you can answer 15 out of 20 correctly, you just might have what it takes to be a marine biologist. No pressure!

5 Fascinating Facts About Marine Life

There's something undeniably intriguing about the ocean and its inhabitants. Maybe it's the sheer mystery—after all, more than 80% of the ocean remains unexplored. Or perhaps it's the sheer diversity of life, from microscopic plankton to the massive blue whale.

The ocean is an entire world filled with creatures that seem almost alien compared to land animals. Consider these mind-blowing facts:

  1. Octopuses have three hearts and can change color instantly.
  2. Some jellyfish are technically immortal, capable of reversing their aging process.
  3. There's a species of shark that can live for over 400 years.
  4. Dolphins have names for each other—specific whistles that act as unique identifiers.
  5. The ocean produces over half of the world's oxygen.

If any of those underwater trivia made you do a double take, just wait until you see the questions in this quiz.

How to Take This Marine Biology Trivia Quiz

Taking this quiz is easy! Just follow these steps:
