Only an English Expert Will Know the Meaning of These Difficult SAT Words

The SAT, originally called the Scholastic Aptitude Test, and later the Scholastic Assessment Test, is a standardized test widely used for college admissions in the United States. Scores on the SAT range from 400 to 1,600, combining test results from two 800-point sections: mathematics, and critical reading and writing. Invented by Princeton psychologist Dr. Carl Brigham, it is used to assess students' readiness for college

On June 23, 1926, the SAT was administered to high school students for the first time. 8,040 American high school students simultaneously pondered which of six words were "most closely related" and which numbers "come next" in a certain sequence. Test takers had only a little over 90 minutes to answer 315 questions. Aimed to test innate ability rather than quality of high school education, the SAT culminated two decades of experiments assessing intelligence that also produced the IQ test.
