In more recent times, the studying of palms was revived in 1839. A pivotal figure who helped to advance the palmistry movement is an Irishman known as Cheiro. He picked up his palm reading abilities from gurus in India and brought the practice back to London. His famous clientele included Mark Twain, Oscar Wilde, Grover Cleveland, Thomas Edison, and even the Prince of Wales. Mark Twain left a note in Cheiro's guestbook that he was told about his character "with humiliating accuracy".
