Are French fries really French? Despite the name, there have been conflicting origin stories for the dish. The French obviously has a stake in creating the dish, while the Belgians claim a lot of their food have been appropriated by France, including fries. Regardless of the country that invented French fries, did you know that Thomas Jefferson was the one who introduced the food to the US? He asked for "potatoes, fried in the French manner" to be served at a White House dinner in 1802.
