There are many countries in the world β the current count is that there are 195 countries in the world, of which 193 are members of the United Nations. More countries get added from time to time, so that number is always changing.
Not surprisingly, the largest country in the world by area is Russia, spanning a huge 17,098,242 kmΒ² across Eastern Europe and Asia. This is followed by Canada (9,984,670 kmΒ²) and China (9,706,961 kmΒ²), both much smaller although still very large, while the United States and Brazil complete the top five at 9,372,610 kmΒ² and 8,515,767 kmΒ² respectively, putting a total of three countries in the Americas in the world's top five largest.
Finding the bigger countries on a map may be a piece of cake. But how well will you do when it comes to the smaller ones? Try out this geography quiz and see if you actually know where some of these countries are.
