Bread is the most important wheat-based foodstuff that is produced all over the world. The first bread was made more than 12,000 years ago, with the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, and Babylonians consuming bread many decades BC. Today's bread has grown to be an important part of most cultures that it comes in thousands of shapes, sizes, additives and flavors.

Despite its popularity in North America, the bagel is actually from Poland. From Italy comes focaccia, a flatbread baked with salt, or salty ingredients such as olives and rosemary. This bread can be a side dish or as a base for the beloved pizza. Another bread you could have for a meal is the Indian flatbread known as naan. With the help of yogurt, the dough can be made smooth and elastic. The versatile bread can be eaten with fillings or sauces on the side.
