The most common misspellings of these dog breed names tend to be phonetic and based on the sounds that people perceive. People often spell the dog breed that was named for the Mexican state of the same name as "Chiwawa". Its fellow toy dog breed Shih Tzu has an even more unfortunate and slightly vulgar misspelled name. Schnauzer is frequently misspelled as "Shnauzer" and Doberman Pinscher as "Pincher".
