Must admit to a lucky guess on one, obviously made 2 bad guesses. I like a good portmanteau but I think there is some overuse now and some are not so clever.
Spotify – I had to google this one. Turns out to be spot and identify but apparently that explanation was invented after the name Spotify was used to kind of pretend it had a meaning. Spotify became the name after something was misheard.
Good to try a portmanteau-themed quiz. However, you must have more than one such quiz because this one was much more celebrity and young personsβ oriented. The one I tried a few days ago was more academic and to my taste. Pity that it froze halfway through.

Ever heard someone mansplaining something during brunch while watching a romcom on Netflix? Welcome to the world of portmanteaus, we just used four in the opening sentence. Portmanteaus are those clever, smashed-together words that we have all come across and perhaps even use in everyday language.
From Bollywood to Pinterest, portmanteaus are word mashups spanning pop culture, tech, trends, and our collective obsession with shortening everything down to something that rolls off the tongue.
But how many of these portmanteaus do you actually understand?
What Is a Portmanteau?
A portmanteau is a word made by blending two other words together. It's a linguistic shortcut that packs meaning and culture into a single, punchy term.
The word portmanteau itself is a portmanteau (of sorts), originally meaning a suitcase that opens into two compartments, it was popularized in the wordplay sense by Lewis Carroll in Through the Looking-Glass.
Here's the trick: not every shortened word is a portmanteau. Acronyms like NASA or GIF don't count. Slang doesn't always count either. A true portmanteau merges both sound and meaning from two separate words into something new.
Common Portmanteaus in Pop Culture
Portmanteaus are efficient and fun to say. Here's a quick list of some well-known ones in pop culture you might see in the quiz:
Romcom: Romantic + Comedy. Think Notting Hill, 10 Things I Hate About You, or Love Actually.
Netflix: Internet + Flicks. A streaming service and probably your most loyal weekend companion.
Barbenheimer: Referring to the time when Barbie and Oppenheimer dropped on the same day
Frenemy: Someone who smiles at you while quietly judging you.
Mansplain: When a guy explains something to you like you've never heard of ChatGPT.
Taebo: Taekwondo + Boxing. A cardio workout craze that had your aunt punching the air in the 2000s.
Bollywood: Bombay + Hollywood. The massive Hindi film industry based in Mumbai.
Nollywood: Nigeria + Hollywood. Africa's cinematic powerhouse, producing more films than you think.
Pinterest: Pin + Interest. Digital scrapbooking for recipe hoarders and DIY dreamers.
Nonebrity: None + Celebrity. That influencer with millions of followers... but seemingly no talent.
Some of these are obvious. Others? Not so much. That's what makes this quiz a fun challengeβeven for self-declared pop culture nerds.
