The first Target store was opened in Roseville, Minnesota in 1962. Since its humble beginnings, it has grown to 1,834 locations throughout America. The stores target, no pun intended, to serve younger or more budget-conscious shoppers with different needs. Younger people sometimes jokingly refer to the store as Targét (tar-zhay) with a French accent.
