People from different generations often have their own sets of slang words and lingo. What a word means to a millennial might have an entirely different definition to someone from the baby boomer generation. It's no wonder that those two generations can't seem to see eye to eye on anything. They are probably not even discussing the same subject but don't realize it since words mean different things to each of them.
Perhaps such a large part of the divide in society comes from this trend of language evolution leaving two or more generations being unable to communicate effectively with one another.
