Becoming a US citizen is not easy. But along with an American citizenship comes opportunities like access to a US passport, the right to vote in public elections, and protection from deportation. Anyone that is hoping to become an American citizen must go through quite a few steps as part of the application process, including establishing your eligibility, attending an interview, passing tests of your knowledge of English and of US civics, and attending an oath ceremony.
In particular, the civics test assesses your knowledge of US history and government. This is an oral test and the officer will ask the applicant up to 10 of the 100 civics questions during the interview process. Applicants must be able to answer at least 6 questions correctly in order to pass. As there are no multiple-choice options, this can be a tough test; even actual American citizens may not be able to pass it on the first try!
Here are some actual questions pulled directly from that test; the multiple choice options added are our own. Would you score well enough to become a US citizen? Take our quiz to find out!
