If you haven't been to The Cheesecake Factory, then you may be surprised by the fact that the restaurant doesn't just sell cheesecakes. It did start out as a small cheesecake shop when it was founded in the late '50s. However, the founder, Evelyn Overton, closed the shop, while continuing to supply cakes to restaurants from her basement kitchen. Eventually, in 1972, she opened a wholesale bakery where she produced cheesecakes and other desserts for restaurants.

As the years passed, the bakery expanded its menu to also include sandwiches and other fast food and short-order items. Next, more meals such as steaks, seafood, and vegetarian dishes were introduced, turning it into a full restaurant. From its humble beginnings in Los Angeles, the restaurant has expanded all over the world and to other franchises too.
